THE SLOPE'S BEST OATMEAL

It's oatmeal season. Or at least it is for me. Cool Autumn mornings just shout out "Oatmeal," don't they?

Yesterday I got mine at Grand Canyon on Seventh Avenue. Nothing fancy with milk, butter and salt added but it sure does the trick. Four bucks, including coffee.

Sweet Melissa's is a tad more expensive but it's Irish style served with strawberries, apples, and maple syrup. I haven't tried Tempo Presto's oatmeal. Cousin John's doesn't have it (but they do have a tasty yogurt served with granola and fruit).

Where do you get your oatmeal?

I am with the make it at home crowd. The McCann's oatmeal takes longer to cook and demands watching and stirring the pot but it is well worth the extra effort. If you just want to be reminded of what oatmeal tastes like and plan to disguise it anyway with sugar, syrup or fruit then the Quaker couple of minue ones are just fine. I am not too sure what oatmeal costs if you order it in a PS fancy place but I am sure that for the price you can get one box of oatmeal that will serve you and your many breakfast bowls.

I know. But what if you're eating breakfast out or at the office. It's so nice to see oatmeal on the menu.

Definitely a DIY food, if there ever was one. Paying someone to make me oatmeal is like paying someone to tie my shoes.

Jeez, one can make Quaker Oatmeal by themselves in minutes. Or just about any other kind. McCann's Irish Oatmeal rocks.
